This was a school project that I would love to actually develop fully as a business venture. As a young disabled person, there were very few resources for me growing up that weren't presented from a sterile, medical viewpoint. Becoming a young adult is hard enough but becoming a young adult with a disability has many obstacles and challenges of its own. Having a one stop-shop place to go and learn that my independence and chance at a pretty normal life was a possibility would have been a great thing to have, especially during such a tumultuous time in my life.
When I initially had this idea, the disability social networking site, Disaboom, did not yet exist. While I think Disaboom is a really excellent example of how I envision DIS to function, I feel that it relies too much on personal blogging and does not present enough information geared toward the young adult demographic.
